RIDGEFIELD — The Ridgefield Police Department is alerting residents to a phone scam involving fraudulent calls claiming to be from law enforcement.
An individual recently reported receiving a call from someone falsely identifying themselves as a police officer.
The caller claimed there was a warrant for the individual’s arrest and demanded payment to “freeze” the warrant.
Authorities confirmed that the call was a scam and emphasized that the police department does not solicit payments over the phone for warrants or any other purpose.
Residents are urged to hang up immediately if they receive similar calls and to report the incident to the Ridgefield Police Department.
