Derby native Kyle Dezotell among 13 inductees into Vermont Sports Hall of Fame

DERBY — Kyle Dezotell, a record-setting high school and collegiate soccer player from Derby, has been named one of the 13 newest inductees into the Vermont Sports Hall of Fame.

The Vermont Sports Hall of Fame (VSHOF) Board of Directors announced its 2025 induction class on January 29, marking the twelfth group of honorees. Dezotell, a standout athlete in both soccer and Nordic skiing, is being recognized for his exceptional contributions to sports in Vermont and beyond.

A 1998 graduate of North Country Union High School, Dezotell set a Metro Division scoring record in soccer and led the Falcons to the Division I state championship. He was named the Gatorade Player of the Year for his achievements. During the winter months, Dezotell excelled in Nordic skiing, earning Vermont state and New England championship titles.

Dezotell continued his athletic career at Middlebury College, where he became the program’s all-time leader in goals, assists, and points.

He played a pivotal role in helping the Panthers secure their first New England Small College Athletic Conference title in 2000, an Eastern College Athletic Conference championship, and two appearances in the NCAA tournament.

After graduating, Dezotell transitioned to coaching, serving as the head men’s soccer coach at several institutions, including Vermont State University, Johnson, Norwich University, Manhattanville College, Ithaca College, and currently at Tufts University in Massachusetts. Under his leadership, his teams have made seven appearances in the NCAA Division III tournament.

The 2025 induction class will be honored at the Vermont Sports Hall of Fame Induction Dinner and Celebration on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the Delta Marriott Burlington Hotel in South Burlington. The event will begin with a reception at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner and the induction ceremony.
