PUTNAM — Five juveniles have been arrested in connection with a burglary at a Putnam business that resulted in the theft of approximately $11,000 in merchandise, police said.
The Putnam Police Department responded to a commercial burglary alarm at Sumo Distributers at 261 Kennedy Drive on July 7, 2024, at 1:43 a.m.
Upon arrival, officers found the front door of the business had been smashed out by blunt force.
The initial investigation revealed the business had been burglarized, with the stolen merchandise valued at around $11,000.
Detective Hailey Griffin conducted a lengthy follow-up investigation, which concluded last week and led to the arrest of the five juvenile suspects.
Three of the suspects are Putnam residents, one is from Woodstock, and one is from Willimantic.
All five juveniles have been referred to the Court of Juvenile Matters in Willimantic and were charged with burglary in the third degree, larceny in the second degree, and criminal mischief in the second degree.
No further details are available due to the juvenile status of all five accused.
