ST. JOHNSBURY — A Sheffield man was charged with retail theft, driving with a criminally suspended license, and violating conditions of release after allegedly stealing firewood from a local drugstore, police said.

Jason Korpi, 46, is accused of taking 16 bundles of firewood from Kinney Drugs on Memorial Dr on Dec. 21 and 23.

Troopers from the St. Johnsbury Barracks were notified of the theft on Jan. 17 at about 12:25 p.m.

After reviewing security footage, authorities identified Korpi as the suspect, who was seen driving to the store and loading the wood into his vehicle.

At the time, Korpi was not permitted to operate a motor vehicle due to a criminal license suspension and existing conditions of release.

Korpi was located on Jan. 31 and has been issued a criminal citation to appear in Caledonia County Criminal Court on March 24 at 8:30 a.m.

He faces two counts each of retail theft, criminal DLS, and violation of conditions of release.
