SHAFTSBURY — A New Hampshire man led Vermont State Police on a high-speed chase after attempting to elude officers and driving dangerously on US RT 7, authorities said Wednesday.

Christopher Ferraro, 41, of West Lebanon, is facing multiple charges following the incident that occurred on Tuesday night.

According to Vermont State Police, the pursuit began when a trooper tried to stop a red Nissan Rogue for following a marked cruiser too closely near the Bennington/Shaftsbury town lines at around 8:20 p.m. Ferraro allegedly sped past the cruiser without slowing down, nearly causing a collision.

The trooper deactivated emergency lights and sirens after the Nissan accelerated to speeds exceeding 100 mph heading south on US RT 7 and then west on VT RT 279 towards New York.

A Be On Lookout alert was issued to neighboring law enforcement agencies due to the vehicle’s reckless operation.

New York State Police located the vehicle after it nearly forced a Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Deputy off the road.

The pursuit ended when Ferraro crashed his vehicle in the Town of Petersburg.

He reportedly resisted arrest but was eventually taken into custody and processed for suspicion of DUI among other charges by New York authorities.

Ferraro received several traffic citations in Vermont and a criminal citation to answer to charges including Criminal DLS, Attempting to Elude, Negligent Operation, and Excessive Speed.
