Lowell, MA gang unit patrol results in two arrests for illegal firearm possession

LOWELL — A routine patrol by the Lowell Police Department’s Gang Unit led to the arrest of two individuals on Jan. 27 after officers observed suspicious activity in the city’s Back Central area.

At around 2:05 p.m., gang unit officers noticed the two males, aged 18 and 16, in the Gorham Street vicinity.

Upon the officers’ approach, both individuals fled on foot, prompting a chase.

The brief pursuit ended with the apprehension of the suspects.

The police discovered that both of the young men were carrying firearms.

They were arrested and charged with illegal possession of the weapons.

The Lowell Police Department, referred to by their call sign LPD6, has not released further details on the incident or the identities of the arrested individuals, pending an ongoing investigation.
