Brownington man arrested for aggravated assault on local resident

BROWNINGTON — A 44-year-old Brownington man was arrested late Tuesday night following an alleged aggravated assault that left a 63-year-old local man with serious injuries.

The Vermont State Police Derby Barracks responded to a call at approximately 9:47 p.m. on Jan. 22, reporting an assault on Evansville Road.

Upon arrival, officers found Ricky Gauthier had sustained serious bodily harm.

Michael Riendeau Jr., also a Brownington resident, was identified as the suspect.

Riendeau was taken into custody and processed at the Derby Barracks shortly after the incident.

Following his arrest, Riendeau was lodged at Northern State Correctional Facility and is being held without bail.

He is charged with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.

A mugshot of the accused has been released.

Riendeau is scheduled to appear before the Orleans County Superior Court on Jan. 23 at 12:30 p.m. for arraignment.
