SHELTON — A felony suspect with an arsenal of illegal firearms and drugs was apprehended by authorities after a lengthy investigation stemming from a 2023 burglary report, Shelton Police Department said Friday.
Edward Vickers, 40, of Ansonia, was arrested on Jan. 16 after law enforcement from multiple agencies located his vehicle in Bridgeport and detained him when he returned to it.
The arrest warrant was served following findings from a search at a downtown Shelton residence on Nov. 1, 2023.
Officers had initially responded to a burglary call at the residence, where they found no intruders but did uncover an AK-47 with a high-capacity magazine.
The subsequent search led to the discovery of 13 illegal firearms, additional high-capacity magazines, narcotics, and body armor, police said.
Information found at the residence linked the arsenal to Vickers, who was not present during the initial search.
Collaborative efforts from the DEA New Haven Office, New Haven Police Department, Bridgeport Police Department, Bridgeport Auto Theft Task Force, and Connecticut State Police Statewide Narcotics Task Force led to Vickers’ surveillance and eventual arrest.
Vickers faces multiple charges, including possession of a high-capacity magazine, possession of a sawed-off shotgun, illegal alteration of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of an assault weapon, theft of a firearm, and criminal possession of body armor, in addition to narcotics-related offenses.
He was held on a $1.5 million bond and was due in Derby Superior Court on Jan. 17.
