Marshfield teen identified as victim in fatal house fire

MARSHFIELD — An 18-year-old woman who died after a house fire in Marshfield has been identified by Vermont State Police as Adalyn Phoenix.

Phoenix was pronounced dead at the University of Vermont Medical Center due to injuries sustained in the blaze that occurred on Jan. 17.

In a statement released by her family, they expressed their intention to honor Phoenix’s wishes by donating her organs to those in need.

The fire at 3343 US Route 2 was reported around 2:45 p.m. after smoke was seen by a passerby.

The Marshfield Fire Department, aided by neighboring fire departments, responded to the emergency.

Phoenix, who was home alone at the time, was found by firefighters inside the residence and was initially taken to Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin before being transferred to Burlington because of the severity of her injuries.

Investigators from the Department of Public Safety Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit were called to the scene to determine the cause of the fire, which is currently under investigation but not considered suspicious.

Authorities are asking anyone with information regarding the fire to contact Detective Sgt.

The Vermont Department of Public Safety also issued a reminder for residents to test their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and ensure they are installed according to manufacturer recommendations.

As the investigation into the fatal fire continues, no further information has been made available.
