Marshfield fire leaves one severely injured, under investigation

MARSHFIELD — On Jan. 17 at around 2:45 p.m., smoke seen emanating from a home at 3343 US Route 2 prompted a call to the Marshfield Fire Department.

Firefighters, along with aid from surrounding fire departments, quickly responded to the scene.

A resident inside the house was unable to flee the burning structure.

Fire personnel discovered the individual and carried them out.

The victim received initial treatment at Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin before being transferred to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington due to the critical nature of the injuries.

Investigators from the Department of Public Safety Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit (FEIU) joined the Marshfield Fire Department to determine the cause of the blaze.

While the fire is still under investigation, authorities have stated that it does not appear to be suspicious at this time.

Detective Sgt. Christopher Blais at the Royalton Barracks is leading the inquiry.

The Vermont Department of Public Safety is using this moment to stress the importance of functional smoke and CO alarms in homes, advising residents to follow manufacturer recommendations for installation.
