Suspect arrested in Sturbridge armed robbery

STURBRIDGE — Police arrested a man Wednesday night in connection with an armed robbery in a convenience store parking lot.

Officers responded to Sam’s Food Store at 392 Main St. at 8:48 p.m. after a victim reported a man brandished a knife and attempted to steal his wallet and laptop from inside his vehicle before fleeing.

Officer Nicole Patterson located the suspect’s vehicle traveling on Route 20 near Baba Sushi without headlights on and conducted a traffic stop.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

The suspect, whose name was not released, was arraigned Thursday in Dudley District Court on charges including armed robbery, possession of burglarious instruments, operating under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and traffic violations.

Sturbridge Police Chief Dessert praised the “swift and coordinated efforts” of the responding officers.

The investigation is ongoing.
