GREENSBORO BEND –– The Greensboro Initiative of Central Vermont Habitat for Humanity is accepting applications for a homeownership opportunity in Greensboro Bend at 1119 Main Street through March 14.
The project features a modern, energy-efficient duplex for two qualifying families or individuals. These starter homes will be affordable—costing less than 30 percent of the household’s monthly income— thanks to a shared equity program that keeps them affordable for income-sensitive homeowners forever.
Applications will be accepted from February 10–March 14, with two homeowners selected by July 2025. Construction will begin in Spring 2025, and the duplex is expected to be ready by mid-2026.
Eligibility Requirements:
• In Need of Shelter: Applicants must have inadequate housing (e.g., temporary,
unsafe, or overcrowded).
• Willing to Partner: Applicants must agree to complete 250 hours of “sweat
equity” (work on the house) and participate in financial counseling and education.
• Able to Pay an Affordable Mortgage: Household income must be between 30 percent and 80 percent of the area’s median income (e.g., $30,700 to $81,850 for a family of 4).
• Live or Work in Orleans County: Applicants must live or work in Orleans
County.

The Greensboro Initiative, launched in 2023, aims to provide affordable housing for working Vermonters in the Greensboro area. Over 80% of construction costs have already been pledged or received, thanks to support from donors like Hill Farmstead Brewery, Jasper Hill Farm, and The Freeman Foundation.
