BERNARDSTON — A Vermont woman was arrested on New Year’s Eve after leading police on a brief pursuit that started around 9:30 p.m. on Route 10, authorities said.

Bernardston Police Department Officer Zukowski was heading west when he observed a blue Subaru exiting Interstate 91 southbound.

The Subaru reportedly made a wide turn, struck a road sign at the on-ramp, and continued onto Route 10.

Despite attempts by Officer Zukowski to stop the vehicle, the driver did not pull over until reaching the area of S. Merrifield Road.

Upon stopping, the 43-year-old woman began to exhibit manic behavior, reaching through her vehicle and claiming someone was trying to kill her.

She was non-compliant with commands to stop moving around inside the car.

With assistance from Sgt. Chabot of the Bernardston PD and Trooper Shearer of the Massachusetts State Police, the woman was taken into custody.

Northfield EMS responded to the scene to evaluate the woman as a precaution.

She was medically cleared before being taken to the Franklin County House of Corrections.

The woman, whose name has not been released, faces multiple charges, including leaving the scene of property damage, operating under the influence of drugs, negligent operation, and possession of Class B and Class C drugs.

Her bail was set at $1,000.
