Teen arrested for DUI after crashing into parked cars, residence in Barton

BARTON — Vermont State Police arrested a 19-year-old Hyde Park resident early Saturday morning after he crashed his car into two parked vehicles and then a residence on High St.

Basil Mahoney was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence following the incident, which occurred at about 2:55 a.m. near VT Route 16.

According to police, Mahoney was operating a 2017 Subaru Forester when he struck the parked vehicles, causing significant damage to the front end of his car.

The other vehicles, a 2015 GMC Sierra and a 1993 Chevrolet GMT-400, sustained damage to their front left sides.

No injuries were reported in the crash.

Troopers noted that Mahoney, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, showed signs of impairment.

He was transported to the Newport Police Department for processing.

Mahoney was released on a citation to appear in Orleans County Superior Court to face the DUI charges.

The accident remains under investigation by the Vermont State Police.
