Moped operator seriously injured in Riverside Avenue crash in Bristol

BRISTOL — A moped crash on Riverside Avenue left a male operator with life-threatening injuries on June 8.

At around 4:34 p.m., Bristol Police officers discovered the severely injured man and immediately notified the Bristol Communications Division.

First responders provided medical aid at the scene until EMS arrived to take over.

The injured operator was transported to a local hospital before being airlifted by Lifestar to a trauma unit hospital, where he underwent surgery.

Preliminary investigation suggests the operator was traveling east on Riverside Avenue when he failed to navigate a curve, causing the moped to overturn and come to rest on him near the curb line at the intersection with East Street.

The Bristol Police Department’s serious traffic accident reconstruction team was called to the scene to further examine the circumstances of the incident.

The investigation is ongoing and the operator’s identity has not been released, pending family notification.

Authorities conducted a search for potential witnesses in the vicinity but were unable to find anyone with information regarding the crash.
