MASHPEE — A 13-year-old girl has been charged with seven counts of assault and battery in connection with an altercation at Mashpee High School last month, the Mashpee Police Department announced Wednesday.
The dispute, which took place on May 25, was captured on video and shared on Snapchat.
Following the incident, police launched a comprehensive investigation, including interviews, evidence collection, and information gathering.
After concluding the investigation, the police worked with the Cape and Island’s District Attorney’s Office to determine the appropriate charges.
The charges were filed in the Falmouth District Court Juvenile Division against the teenage girl.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident for potential accomplices, but no further comments have been made regarding this part of the case.
In a distressing development, on June 2, the victim of the assault was reported missing from her home.
Local, state, and federal agencies are currently engaged in an extensive search to find the missing girl.
“The safe return of this missing juvenile is our highest priority,” said Scott W. Carline, Chief of Police. “We are using all available resources to bring this case to a successful resolution in accordance with Massachusetts juvenile laws.”
The police are actively following several leads to ensure the girl’s safe return and have emphasized that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
