WAITSFIELD — A residential fire on Mehuron Drive resulted in extensive damage exceeding $100,000, officials reported Tuesday.

The Waitsfield Fire Department responded to the blaze at 157 Mehuron Drive at approximately 10:01 a.m. on June 4 after receiving calls about heavy smoke and fire emanating from the basement of the residence owned by Jennifer Stella, 53.

Fire Chief immediately requested the Department of Public Safety Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit to assist in determining the fire’s origin and cause.

The investigation revealed that the fire started in the basement due to improperly disposed of paper towels soaked in linseed oil.
