Barnet man arrested on domestic assault charges

BARNET — Vermont State Police responded to a domestic dispute early Friday where they arrested a Barnet man on charges of domestic assault and interference with access to emergency services.

Police said they were called to a home on US 5 at 12:57 a.m. where they found evidence that Robert Somers, 43, had assaulted a member of his household and had prevented the victim from contacting emergency services.

Somers was taken into custody without incident and was lodged at the Northeast Regional Correctional Facility in St. Johnsbury for lack of $500 bail.

The identity of the victim has not been released by the authorities, adhering to policies regarding incidents of domestic violence.
