New London police warn of scam calls impersonating officers

1 min read

NEW LONDON — Local authorities are alerting residents to a wave of deceptive phone calls where scammers are posing as police officers and demanding money for alleged legal infractions.

The New London Police Department issued a warning on Tuesday after numerous reports of scam calls targeting individuals in the area.

According to the police, the fraudulent callers claim the recipient has failed to appear for jury duty or is facing a contempt of court violation, and must immediately pay a fine to avoid arrest.

Officials stressed that neither the New London Police Department nor any of its personnel would ever solicit money over the phone under such pretenses.

They urge community members to remain vigilant and end any call that feels suspicious or coercive.

Residents who receive such calls are advised to hang up without providing any personal information or payment.
