VERNON — A domestic assault incident led to a foot pursuit and the successful apprehension of a suspect thanks to the efforts of a police K9 in Vernon on May 28.

Officers from the Vernon Police Department were called to a residence in the evening for a report of a domestic assault involving a father and his son.

Upon their arrival, authorities discovered that the male suspect had fled the scene on foot.

An observant officer noticed signs of disturbance in the form of matted down vegetation in a neighboring yard, indicating the suspect’s possible path.

Officer Zawadski quickly deployed his K9 partner, Franco, to begin the search.

Demonstrating his tracking skills, K9 Franco led officers through thick brush and into the yard of a nearby home.

Franco’s actions forced the suspect out of hiding, prompting a brief chase on foot.

The suspect was safely apprehended shortly thereafter, thanks to the swift actions of Franco and the attending officers.
