EAST PROVIDENCE — Less than an hour after a crosswalk on Turner Avenue was freshly painted, it became the target of vandalism, prompting an investigation by the East Providence Police.

The defacement occurred today, just before the city’s Memorial Day Parade, an event honoring fallen service members.

The crosswalk is located along the parade route, and authorities are seeking to resolve the issue swiftly.

East Providence Police described the act as “completely unacceptable” and are calling on the community for assistance.

Residents with any information regarding the vandalism are urged to contact the police at 435-7600 and press 1 to speak with a dispatcher.

The department hopes to have the matter resolved before Monday’s parade, which pays tribute to the men and women of the armed services who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
