BOSTON — Boston police officers from the C-6 Drug Control Unit arrested a man on firearm and drug charges Thursday afternoon following an undercover operation in South Boston.

At about 2:30 p.m., officers were conducting surveillance as part of an ongoing drug investigation near 710 East Broadway Street when they observed a vehicle back into a parking spot and an interaction they suspected to be a drug transaction.

After witnessing an exchange between the driver and another individual, officers approached the pedestrian, identified themselves, and discovered cocaine in his possession.

Meanwhile, additional officers stopped the suspected vehicle at the intersection of E Street and Broadway.

The driver, identified as Anderson Estevez, 33, of Hamilton, initially refused to roll down his window and appeared to reach for his waistband.

Estevez informed the officers he had a firearm in the center console and a valid license to carry.

Upon searching Estevez and the vehicle, officers found two bags of cocaine and a loaded Sig Sauer 9mm handgun.

Estevez was arrested and faces charges including unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, improper storage of a firearm, distribution of class B drugs, and possession with intent to distribute class B drugs.

He will be arraigned at South Boston District Court.

The individual who allegedly engaged in the transaction with Estevez was summoned to court on charges of possession of class B drugs.
