LEWISTON — In the early hours of the morning, the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office reported an incident involving a semi tractor-trailer that caused extensive damage to utility infrastructure.

At approximately 2:00 a.m., Deputy Emma Stone was called to the intersection of North Raymond Road and Cassie Lane, where she discovered a utility pole completely torn from the ground, blocking North Raymond Road.

Upon the arrival of Central Maine Power (CMP), it was found that another utility pole on Cassie Lane was also destroyed, with power lines downed.

A witness at the scene observed the semi truck maneuvering through Cassie Lane, a road not typically used by large vehicles due to its short loop of less than a mile, which re-enters North Raymond Road.

The size of the truck resulted in the downing of the wires.

According to the witness, the driver exited the vehicle, assessed the damage, and then drove away.

Although another witness managed to photograph the truck, its Department of Transportation number or any identifying insignia was not clearly visible.

CMP has estimated the cost of the damages at approximately $15,000.

Following the incident, the driver of the semi has come forward and is currently cooperating with the investigation.
