SPRINGFIELD — Two juveniles were apprehended and a firearm was confiscated following a series of events that involved a vehicle pursuit and shootings, Springfield Police announced Wednesday.

The sequence of events began on May 7 when Chicopee Police engaged in a chase with a stolen vehicle.

Later that evening, around 7 p.m., the same vehicle, with two occupants, was implicated in a shooting on the 0-100 block of Marble Street, resulting in damage to a car and the South End Community Center window.

Several hours later, at approximately 9 p.m., the vehicle was seen by residents near Main Street and Lombard Street, where another shooting occurred.

No injuries or damages were reported from this incident.

The situation escalated when, around 10:55 p.m., plainclothes detectives located the vehicle on the 200 block of Franklin Street.

While awaiting backup, they were fired upon by an occupant of the vehicle.

A pursuit ensued, but the suspects managed to escape.

On May 8, in the afternoon, the vehicle was again spotted on I-391 in Holyoke.

It led police on a chase into Springfield, where it was eventually stopped in the area of Bernie Avenue off of I-91 South.

Both the driver and passenger, 17-year-old males, were arrested, and a firearm was seized.

The vehicle had been reported stolen from Vermont.

Police identified the driver as the same individual involved in the previous night’s shooting and chase.

The passenger was also identified as the individual who had fired at two detectives in an unmarked cruiser.

The Springfield Police Department noted that the passenger had a history of firearms charges, including an arrest last May and another arrest for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon the following month.

Due to the suspects being minors, their names and booking photos have not been released.
