BOSTON — An on-duty Boston Police Department officer arrested a 17-year-old male for firearm-related charges after intervening in a potentially dangerous confrontation at around 12:05 p.m. Thursday.

While working a paid detail at the intersection of Tremont and Northampton streets, the officer overheard a verbal altercation.

As the situation escalated, he noticed the suspect making verbal threats and reaching into his hoodie pocket, prompting the victim to run away.

The officer quickly detained the resistant suspect and, during a pat frisk, found a loaded .22 caliber Davis Industries Model 0 firearm in the suspect’s pocket.

The teen is facing charges including unlawful possession of a firearm, assault with a dangerous weapon, and unlawful possession of ammunition.

He is scheduled for arraignment in Boston Juvenile Court.
