Westport police apprehend juveniles in stolen vehicle case

WESTPORT — Westport Police, in coordination with the Bridgeport Auto-Theft Task Force, apprehended two juveniles from Danbury after a reported attempt to enter vehicles near Compo Beach on May 1.

At approximately 11:45 p.m., police responded to a 911 call on Hills Point Road.

Officers established a perimeter as two suspect vehicles, confirmed stolen from other areas, were spotted exiting the vicinity.

Upon attempting a traffic stop, both vehicles failed to yield, and Westport Police chose not to engage in pursuit.

BATF agents, utilizing unmarked vehicles, trailed one of the suspect cars to Interstate 95.

The pursuit concluded in Stratford, where the two juveniles, aged 14 and 17, were taken into custody.

The 14-year-old passenger faces charges of conspiracy to commit larceny in the first degree and interfering with an officer.

The 17-year-old driver is charged with engaging police in pursuit, criminal attempt to assault a public safety officer, first-degree larceny of a motor vehicle, and interfering with an officer.

Following the arrests, both individuals were released to their parents and are scheduled to appear in Danbury Juvenile Court.
