SPRINGFIELD — On Tuesday at approximately 5:40 p.m., Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) detectives, led by Sergeants Christopher Hitas and David Robillard, arrested a 17-year-old male after seizing a loaded firearm.

Earlier that afternoon, the FIU received a tip regarding the teen’s illegal possession of the weapon.

The unit located the suspect on the 200 block of Dickinson Street as he and a 15-year-old male entered a vehicle.

Following the detainment of both individuals, a search revealed a loaded firearm inside the 17-year-old’s fanny pack.

He was subsequently placed under arrest, while the 15-year-old was released.

Authorities have not disclosed the name or booking photo of the 17-year-old due to his juvenile status.
