MASHPEE — Authorities are seeking the owner of a boat found heavily damaged in what they believe to be the aftermath of a bonfire event in the Pine Barrens section of town.

The Harbormaster’s Office received a report this afternoon about the remains of a boat that had been involved in a fire.

Officials from the Harbormaster, Mashpee Police Department, Mashpee Fire Department, and Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and found the vessel in a state of significant damage.

Photos of the burned boat have been released in hopes that someone will recognize it or any unique markings it may have.

Harbormaster Bobby Tomaino and Detective Koch of the Mashpee Police Department are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the owner.

Authorities are eager to speak with the owner to understand the circumstances leading to the vessel’s current condition.

Anyone with information related to the boat or its owner is encouraged to contact Harbormaster Tomaino at 508-539-1410 ext. 3203 or Detective Koch at 508-539-1480 ext. 7239.
