OTIS — The Otis Police Department issued a scam alert today after a resident received a distressing phone call claiming a loved one had been abducted and demanding a ransom.
The call, which included a voice resembling that of the alleged abductee, turned out to be a scam.
Authorities confirmed that the resident’s loved one was safe and had not been kidnapped.
Police are urging the public to remain vigilant and to not comply with such demands should they receive a similar call.
Residents are advised to immediately contact the police if they encounter any suspicious activity or threats.
They are also reminding everyone to be cautious about sharing personal information over the phone and to report any fraudulent activity to law enforcement.
