Coventry, CT police investigating attempted vehicle thefts

COVENTRY, CT — Three suspects attempted to steal vehicles from South Street residences last night, leading to a confrontation where one of the individuals brandished a firearm, according to Coventry Police.

The incident began around 6:45 p.m. when the trio, driving a black Jaguar SUV believed to be stolen from the capital region, backed into a driveway near Washburn Ave.

One suspect entered the homeowner’s vehicle but fled after being spotted by the owner as she left her house.

A second attempt was made further north on South Street, where a suspect was chased by the homeowner.

During this encounter, one of the suspects pointed a gun at the resident before they all escaped the scene.

Police described one suspect as a white male, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall with a small build, and a second as a light-skinned black or Hispanic male with a similar stature.

The suspects were said to be teenagers or young adults.

Authorities have urged South Street area residents to review their surveillance footage for any evidence and to report suspicious activities.

The police department also reminded the public to avoid confronting trespassers, to lock their vehicles, remove valuables, and to call 911 in emergencies.

Coventry Police are currently investigating the incidents and are collaborating with nearby agencies that have reported similar crimes.
