Inmate cited for assaulting officer at Springfield correctional facility

SPRINGFIELD — An incident at the Southern State Correctional Facility resulted in an inmate being cited for assaulting a staff member with bodily fluids, Vermont State Police reported.

Authorities said that on April 16 at approximately 2 p.m., Kyle J. Hamilton, 24, an inmate at SSCF in Springfield, assaulted correctional officer Rafaul Nunes by spitting on him.

The Vermont State Police were notified of the assault on the same day.

Following an investigation, Hamilton was issued a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Windsor Criminal Division, on June 4 at 8 a.m. to answer to the charge of assaulting a correctional officer with bodily fluids.

Hamilton, who remains incarcerated at SSCF, will be processed for the alleged assault during his upcoming court appearance.

Officer Nunes did not report any significant injuries as a result of the incident.
