Stow police warn of mail scams promising money, inheritance

1 min read

STOW — Residents have reported receiving suspicious mailings claiming they’ve won money or inherited a trust fund, the Stow Police Department announced Tuesday.

The notices, which police say are typically fraudulent, appear designed to obtain personal information from recipients.

Authorities are urging community members to be cautious and skeptical of such claims.

“If you are ever doubting the validity of such a notice, please feel free to bring it to the police department and one of our officers would be happy to look at it for you,” the department stated in a recent advisory.

The warning follows a small but concerning number of reports from locals who have been targeted by these deceptive practices.

Stow Police are reminding residents that if an offer sounds too good to be true, it most likely is.

Residents who receive similar notices are encouraged to contact the Stow Police Department for assistance and to ensure their personal information remains secure.
