Pittsfield police warn of misleading donation letters from National Police Association

1 min read

PITTSFIELD — Pittsfield Police Department issued a scam alert to residents regarding donation requests by mail from an organization claiming to support law enforcement efforts.

Local citizens have been receiving letters asking for contributions to “help your community” and “preserve quality of life.” While the National Police Association boasts a valid 501(c)(3) IRS status, its activities have raised concerns among various law enforcement agencies nationwide due to their politically charged nature.

The organization, which is not officially linked to any U.S. law enforcement agencies, has been called out for its questionable mailings.

Authorities are urging the public to exercise caution if they receive such a request from the National Police Association.

Residents are reminded to thoroughly vet any organization before making a donation and to be wary of where their money might be going.
