Newport man charged in Derby theft

DERBY — A Newport man was arrested and charged with grand larceny for allegedly stealing items from a car parked at the Walmart in Derby on March 20, police said.

Randy Buzzell, 28, was apprehended on April 14 following an investigation into the theft reported by 18-year-old Ashton Shedd.

According to the Vermont State Police, Shedd’s complaint detailed the theft of personal items including two chrome books, one of which belonged to North Country Union High School.

While some stolen property has been recovered, the chrome books remain missing.

Buzzell was processed at the Derby Barracks and released with a citation to appear in the Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division, in Newport on May 7 at 8:30 a.m.

Authorities are continuing the investigation and request anyone with information to contact Sgt. Mikkola or submit a tip online.
