Sheffield police warn of phone scams targeting locals

1 min read

SHEFFIELD — The Sheffield Police Department has warned residents of a string of attempted phone scams after receiving multiple reports of fraudulent calls.

Victims have reported receiving calls where their caller ID misleadingly displays “Sheffield Police.”

Upon answering, individuals are informed they have an outstanding balance with Apple, and the caller, at times impersonating a law enforcement officer, demands money.

The Sheffield Police Department is actively investigating these incidents and urges residents not to provide personal information if they receive such calls.

Instead, they should hang up and contact the Sheffield Police Department at 413-229-8522 to report the scam attempt.

The police department emphasizes the importance of community awareness and is asking the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious calls immediately.
