Newport man faces charges after allegedly holding victims at gunpoint

NEWPORT — David Perry, 41, on multiple charges following a Wednesday night incident on Third Street. Perry is charged with kidnapping, unlawful restraint in the first degree, and reckless endangerment.

The situation began at approximately 9:09 p.m., when Newport officers responded to a disturbance call at a residence on Third Street. Initial investigations revealed that Perry had allegedly held multiple individuals at gunpoint before fleeing the scene in a dark blue Dodge truck.

At around 10:43 p.m., the truck was spotted on Lake Road, leading to a high-risk traffic stop by Newport officers.

Perry was apprehended without incident. Further investigations determined that Perry had made death threats and physically threatened individuals with a handgun.

Perry is scheduled for arraignment in Orleans District Court on Thursday afternoon. The incident remains under active investigation by the Newport Police Department.
