Medford police warn of phone scam using department’s number

1 min read

MEDFORD — The Medford Police Department alerted the community to a phone scam involving one of its non-emergency numbers being used to deceive local residents, officials said Monday.

Residents have reported receiving calls from the number 781-391-6404, which appears on caller IDs as ‘City of Medford.’

The callers impersonate police officers and falsely claim there is a warrant for the residents’ arrest.

Authorities emphasized that the department does not make calls to threaten arrest and urged the public to hang up immediately if they receive such a call.

Residents are also advised to protect their personal and financial information by not providing any sensitive details over the phone.

The Medford Police Department is investigating the situation and encourages anyone who has received a scam call to report it to their office.
