St. Johnsbury man arrested for aggravated domestic assault, habitual offenses

ST. JOHNSBURY — St. Johnsbury Police arrested a local man yesterday on charges including 1st Degree Aggravated Domestic Assault and being a Habitual Offender, as well as on an active warrant for forgery.

Corporal George Johnson of the St. Johnsbury Police Department reported that at 8:21 p.m., a visibly injured pregnant woman sought help at the police station on Portland Street.

She reported that 37-year-old Scott Mason, also of St. Johnsbury, had repeatedly punched her in the face in the presence of her 3-year-old child, causing a severe black eye.

Mason, who has a history of six prior felony convictions including two for Aggravated Assault and others for drug sale, accessory before the fact of assault and robbery, and burglary, was identified as a Habitual Offender.

Additionally, Mason had an outstanding warrant out of Essex for 26 counts of felony forgery.

Police located and arrested Mason while he was driving on Railroad Street.

Judge Michael Kainen ordered Mason to be held without bail.

Following the arrest, Mason was transported to a correctional facility.
