Springfield police seize AK-47 style rifle, drugs in traffic stop

SPRINGFIELD — An AK-47 style rifle, drugs, and cash were seized, leading to the arrest of three individuals on Wednesday.

Under the leadership of Sgt. Christopher Hitas, FIU detectives were conducting an investigation targeting 24-year-old Dadin Davis.

A vehicle carrying Davis as the front passenger was stopped by detectives.

Davis, along with the driver, 23-year-old Tanight Benton, and rear passenger, 25-year-old Raekwon Davis, were removed from the car.

A search revealed an AK-47 style rifle on the front passenger side floorboard, loaded with 20 rounds and capable of holding 30.

The rifle had been reported stolen from Detroit, Michigan.

Additionally, detectives found 86 MDMA pills, $2,750 in cash, and 23 bags of marijuana.

The three suspects were promptly arrested, marking the 12th illegal firearm confiscated by the FIU in March.

Dadin Davis faces several charges, including carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a large capacity firearm during the commission of a felony, and drug distribution offenses.

Tanight Benton and Raekwon Davis face similar charges.

All three are from Springfield, and their charges include receiving stolen property worth less than $1,200.
