Newtown residents thwart copper theft at Fairfield Hills Campus

NEWTOWN — A vigilant community member’s quick thinking led to the arrest of two individuals caught vandalizing air conditioning units at the Fairfield Hills Campus on March 17.

The concerned citizen reported suspicious activity to the emergency communications center, alerting officers to a potential crime in progress.

Police responded promptly to the scene and discovered a man and woman actively attempting to extract copper to load into a nearby vehicle.

Upon conducting a brief investigation, authorities detained both suspects.

They face multiple charges under the Connecticut General Statutes, including criminal trespassing, larceny, possession of burglary tools, and possession of a controlled substance.
