Man injured after turkey flies through windshield, causing rollover crash in Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD — A man was injured after a turkey flew through his windshield and struck him, causing his vehicle to leave the roadway and roll down an embankment on Route 36 near the Bakersfield Tree Farm at 2:09 p.m. March 8.

Leonard Hemingway, 30, of Enosburg, was traveling west on Route 36 in a 2007 Toyota 4Runner when the incident occurred, according to the Vermont State Police.

Hemingway was extricated from the vehicle by members of Enosburg Rescue and flown to the University of Vermont Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The vehicle was totaled in the rollover.

The crash remains under investigation.
