6 unit apartment building destroyed by fire in Thornton, 1 dog killed

THORNTON — A six-unit apartment building on Upper Mad River Road was destroyed by a fire on Monday, March 4 at approximately 4:30 p.m.

Firefighters from multiple departments responded to the scene after receiving numerous 911 calls reporting the blaze, with one person initially reported as trapped on the second floor.

All occupants were confirmed out of the structure prior to fire department arrival.

Crews attacked the fire with handlines and a ladder pipe, shuttling water from nearby fill sites.

The building is considered a total loss.

No injuries were reported, but one dog perished in the fire. The American Red Cross is assisting displaced residents, and the Thornton Police Department is coordinating donations for the victims.

The New Hampshire Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting with the investigation.
