Suspect arraigned in St. Johnsbury homicide case

ST. JOHNSBURY — A suspect in the January fatal shooting of Christina Chatlos is scheduled for arraignment at 2 p.m. Monday, March 4, by video in the Criminal Division of Vermont Superior Court in St. Johnsbury.

The suspect, a 15-year-old male from Springfield, Massachusetts, will be charged as an adult with second-degree murder.

He is accused of shooting Chatlos, 38, during a confrontation outside 510 Portland St. on Jan. 23.

Initially detained on an unrelated warrant in Massachusetts, the suspect was extradited and arrested on the Vermont murder warrant on Feb. 26.

The Caledonia County State’s Attorney’s Office is handling the extradition to Vermont.

No date for the arraignment was set prior to this update.

An autopsy conducted on Jan. 25 at the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington confirmed the cause of Chatlos’s death as a gunshot wound to the torso, and the manner of death as a homicide.
