Jonathan DeLaBruere appointed as new City Manager of Newport

NEWPORT — The Newport City Council, following a unanimous vote in a special meeting tonight, announced the appointment of Jonathan DeLaBruere as the new City Manager.

This appointment is the culmination of an extensive nationwide search, conducted by VLCT and Leonine Public Affairs, which was narrowed down to three highly qualified finalists. The selection process was thorough, assessing each candidate’s experience, education, accomplishments, presentation skills, and knowledge of local government management. DeLaBruere, along with the other finalists, had the opportunity to meet with the senior staff and undergo a final interview with the City Council.

DeLaBruere’s professional background includes serving as the Town Administrator of Cambridge, VT, and as a fire instructor in Pittsford, VT. He has also worked as an Emergency Management Planner for the Central Vermont Regional Planning Commission in Montpelier. Raised in Newport, DeLaBruere’s educational background spans business administration and environmental sciences.

The Mayor and City Council expressed their enthusiasm for DeLaBruere’s return to Newport, noting his impressive demeanor and passion for serving the community. His collaborative managerial style and deep connection to the city are seen as valuable assets for his new role.

DeLaBruere shared his excitement about returning to his hometown, expressing pride in his roots and a commitment to contributing to Newport’s growth and development.

“I am extremely impressed with your community as a whole and would be honored to join your team” DeLaBruere wrote. “Newport is my home. Where I was raised. I’ve always been proud to be from Newport and I’m excited to be coming back to help our community grow.”

He is set to officially begin his tenure as City Manager on March 11.
