NEWPORT — An autopsy conducted on Wednesday afternoon confirmed the death of Kayla Wright, 29, from Derby, as a homicide, Vermont State Police reported.

Wright’s body was discovered Tuesday in Troy, and the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington identified a gunshot wound to the head as the cause of death.

The ongoing investigation by the Vermont State Police includes interviews with potential witnesses and the execution of a court-ordered search warrant at a residence on Vermont Route 100 in Troy. Despite these efforts, no arrests have been made in connection with the homicide.

Collaboration in the investigation extends to the Newport Police Department, Orleans County Sheriff’s Department, and the federal agency Homeland Security Investigations, including the involvement of the VSP’s Narcotics Investigation Unit.

Authorities are urging anyone with information that could aid the investigation to contact the state police barracks in Derby at 802-334-8881.
