1 min read

TEWKSBURY — Police Chief Ryan Columbus announced that the Tewksbury Police Department successfully located a missing senior citizen on Tuesday afternoon, ending a search that began earlier that day.

The search was initiated after authorities were alerted at 8:15 a.m. on Feb. 6 that an elderly resident of Shawsheen Street, in his 80s, had been missing since Monday evening.

Tewksbury Police, alongside the department’s Drone Unit, patrol officers, the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council, and several local K-9 units, launched a comprehensive search operation.

The department also utilized social media to inform the public and aid the search efforts.

These efforts paid off when, at around 2 p.m., Tewksbury resident Janell Velozo noticed the missing man in a wooded area along East Street near Shawsheen Street.

Velozo, who was aware of the search from the Tewksbury Police’s social media posts, quickly contacted dispatchers to report her sighting.

The man was found in good health and was promptly transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
