Newbury man escapes with minor injuries after icy road crash

1 min read

NEWBURY — A Boston man sustained minor injuries Tuesday when his vehicle slid into an embankment on a snow-covered and icy road in Newbury.

Shafique Holloway, 22, was traveling southbound on Scotch Hollow Rd at about 30 mph when he lost control of his 2023 Mercedes Benz Sprinter on a curve prior to Old County Road.

The vehicle struck a snowbank and then a tree, causing minor damage to the vehicle.

The crash resulted in the deployment of airbags on both the driver and passenger sides.

Holloway was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the incident.

Emergency Medical Services evaluated him at the scene and reported a minor knee injury.

Darlings Tow and Recovery responded to the accident, pulling the vehicle back onto the road.

Holloway and his vehicle were subsequently cleared from the scene.

The clear weather conditions did not prevent the roads from being hazardous due to the snow and ice.

Drivers are reminded to exercise caution and adjust their speed accordingly during winter driving conditions.
