DUMMERSTON — A 64-year-old Dummerston man was charged with animal cruelty and providing false information to police after allegedly shooting and killing a domesticated dog, authorities said Wednesday.

Vermont State Police and Vermont Fish and Wildlife Wardens responded to a call at approximately 6:16 p.m. on Nov. 22, where they found the deceased animal.

Through their investigation, they determined that John J.

Wehner had shot the dog and lied to law enforcement officers about the incident.

Wehner was cited and released.

He is expected to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Windham Criminal Division, on Jan. 30 to face the charges.
