SALEM — A joint investigation by Salem Police narcotics detectives and the Drug Enforcement Administration culminated Friday afternoon with a significant narcotics seizure and the arrest of a Massachusetts man accused of attempting to sell methamphetamine and fentanyl.

Authorities arrested Luis Enrique Guerrero Martinez, 30, of Lawrence, MA, on Pleasant Street as he was allegedly trying to sell one pound of methamphetamine and over five grams of pressed fentanyl pills.

Martinez was taken into custody without incident and is being held without bail.

He is slated for arraignment Monday at Salem District Court on charges of the sale of methamphetamine exceeding five ounces and the sale of fentanyl over five grams, both categorized as special felonies.

The Salem Police Department emphasized that all suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Martinez’s arrest is part of an ongoing effort to combat the distribution of narcotics in the community.
