1 min read

WELLESLEY — An early morning traffic accident on Washington Street near Eaton Court resulted in a diesel fuel spill and road closures Friday.

Wellesley Police, Fire, and the Department of Public Works responded to the scene at 5:30 a.m. after an oil delivery truck collided with another vehicle.

The impact caused the oil truck’s diesel tank to rupture, releasing approximately 45 gallons of diesel fuel onto the roadway.

Authorities shut down the westbound lanes of Washington Street as emergency crews worked to contain and clean up the hazardous spill.

While eastbound traffic experienced delays, crews managed to keep the flow moving slowly as the situation was being handled.

After an extensive cleanup effort, the Fire Department and Department of Public Works successfully cleared the spill and reopened most sections of the road to traffic.

One individual sustained minor injuries in the crash and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for evaluation.

The cause of the accident is under investigation by local authorities.

Drivers were advised to seek alternative routes during the cleanup operation.
